DAILY DEVOTIONS – FRIDAY OCTOBER 30, 2020

Luke 4:7-8 (NIV)  (The devil said) “So if you worship me,  it will all be yours.”  Jesus answered,  “It is written:  ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

Every day,  we face temptations to shortcut the long trek of discipleship for quick fixes and easy answers.  It is all too easy to compromise our faith when our prayers seem to go unanswered,  and our souls enter a dark night that seems to contradict everything we ever believed about God and His faithfulness.  Jesus knew that Satan’s power was limited.  He knew a single focus would need to be maintained throughout His ministry (a divided heart only allows room for compromise).  Satan hurled this temptation at Jesus again through Peter’s words (see Mark 8:33).  But Jesus refused to compromise His mission no matter how difficult the suffering.  The next time you are tempted to sacrifice your faith for an easier way of life,  beware of developing a divided heart. Remember Christ’s words: Worship the Lord your God, serve Him only.
