Matthew 5:6 (NIV)
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Spiritual hunger presupposes a spiritual capacity; and such hunger originates with God (John 6:44). It is the call of God echoing within us; and when we pay attention to that sense of need, of desire, of craving, and turn it Godward, we can be assured that our hunger will be satisfied. The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him (II Chr. 16:9). The promise is real: they that hunger shall be filled. Don’t divert your spiritual hunger into other channels of interest or it will be destroyed. Live aware. Create space in your busy calendar for reading and study and prayer. Read your Bible slowly and with your heart open. Pay attention to the breadcrumbs across your pathway that may lead you to a teacher or a specific study that will answer the deep questions of your heart. The Lord delights to feed us from His table (Psalm 23:5) so don’t be satisfied with anything less. Nurture your hunger for God.
