DAILY DEVOTIONS – MONDAY DECEMBER 27, 2021

Matthew 2:8 (NIV)

(Herod) sent (the Magi) to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child.  As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

King Herod had no intention of worshipping the Christ child.  He destroyed anyone who might interfere with his ambitions; he had murdered his wife, her mother, his oldest son, and two other sons!  No threat survived his murderous reign.  Though the Magi did not immediately discern Herod’s evil intentions, God faithfully warned them in a dream, and they returned home by a different route (v. 12).  Satan exists as an evil force.  His goal is to overthrow our faith, accuse God to us, and accuse us to God.  He is the enemy of our souls, and we should not be  “unaware of his schemes” (II. Cor. 2:11).  Remember, God is greater than Satan.  Like the Magi, listen carefully to the Lord’s divine guidance.  God is fully devoted to caring for those who are fully devoted to Him.
