DAILY DEVOTIONS – MONDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2021

Matthew 4:4 (NIV)

Jesus answered, “It is written:  ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

When Jesus prayed, “Give us this day our daily bread,”  He was talking about more than having enough food or having our physical needs met.  He was inviting us to come to the Father daily for refreshing, renewal and nourishment for both soul and body.  We must recognize our dependency on the Lord for all nourishment and realize that the provision for our needs flows out of the discipline of daily prayer.  James 4:2 stresses the necessity of prayer:  You do not have because you do not ask.  God is ready to release many good things to us, but His readiness does not remove our place or need of asking.  The promise of God’s care for us does not bypass our need for prayerful, acknowledged dependence.  Rather than clenching our teeth in determination to get something done, we need to come to the Father in prayer—daily, dependently and gratefully.  Do you turn to the Lord first, or do you rely primarily on your own strength?  Seek the wisdom of the Lord first.
