DAILY DEVOTIONS – MONDAY MARCH 21, 2022

Psalm 139 (NIV) (Focus verse 1)

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.

We are wired for trust.  It is essential for life.  We start learning it (or don’t learn it) as an infant.  David said, “You led me to trust you at my mother’s breast” (Psa. 22:9b).  Psychologists say the number one thing every infant needs in those first few years of life is a sense of safety.  If they don’t develop that, then a sense of distrust follows them throughout their life.  How do we build trust?  According to Dr. Henry Cloud, trust has five core elements.  First, ”you are able to trust when you feel understood.”   You feel understood when people listen to you with compassion.  The entirety of Psalm 139 describes how deeply God knows us and loves us.  He is worthy of our trust.  When earthly parents or other significant people fail us, remember that God knows you best and loves you most.
