DAILY DEVOTIONS – MONDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2020

John 20:19 (TPT)  That evening the disciples gathered together.  And because they were afraid of reprisals from the Jewish leaders,  they had locked the doors to the place where they met.  But suddenly Jesus appeared among them and said,  “Peace to you!”

What was the first word Jesus said to His disciples after the resurrection?  Peace.  In the New Testament,  the word peace has a very different meaning from the way we typically use it.  When we use the word,  we are usually referring to the absence of something—struggle,  strife,  conflict.  But in the New Testament the word (ereine in Greek) refers primarily to the presence of something.  Jesus is the embodiment of peace,  more than a carrier of a momentary calm.  He said:  “My peace I give unto you” (John 14:27) (NIV).  There is no need to be afraid of Super Tuesday tomorrow.  The Kingdom of God is secure because Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father.  We have prayed and interceded:  “Thy Kingdom come,  Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”  We have fasted.  We have voted.  Trust Jesus.  He is our peace (Eph. 2:14).  When the rest of the world is in upheaval (as the Bible predicted it would be in the last days),  let the presence of Jesus (who epitomizes peace) resonate from within you.  Then when people ask you how you can be so calm and peaceful,  invite them to coffee and share how faith in Jesus changes everything.
