The nation of Israel was in exile because they had not obeyed the covenant commands. Now Jerusalem, “the city where I have chosen to put my Name” (I Kings 11:36), was in shambles. Nehemiah’s prayers included repentance—personal and national. How are we praying for our nation? “Forgive us, Lord.” “Forgive me, Lord.”
