DAILY DEVOTIONS – SATURDAY MAY 9, 2020

Psalm 119:68 –  You are good,  and what you do is good;  teach me your decrees.

“When turbulence,  disappointment,  or pain comes into our lives;  when we lose people we love;  when things don’t go as we had hoped or planned,  Satan tempts us to wonder,  “Is God really good?  If He were,  how could He have let this happen?”  In this fallen world where wars,  genocide,  famine and natural disasters are a reality,  that Deceiver tries to cast God in a negative light.  In reality,  he is the persecutor of humanity.  Yet,  he accuses God to us and us to God:  “How could a truly good God let the Holocaust take place,  or the famine in Ethiopia,  or the massacre at Columbine?”  A good many things do not look to the eye like goodness.  Certainly we have an enemy who is determined to cause havoc in our world and we await the day when Jesus will return and set all things in order and bring judgment on wickedness and evil.  Until then,  we pray intercessory prayers,  rescue the perishing,  and live as His hands extended in mission.  Through it all,  God’s character does not change:  “He is good,  all the time.”  Faith says,  “I can wait for His explanations.”
