DAILY DEVOTIONS – SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 25, 2021

Matthew 4:23 (NIV)  Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Christ’s miracles drew multitudes.  People listened to Him as long as they saw miracles.  But later in His ministry, as He drew near to the cross, He performed fewer miracles and preached more about discipleship.  Once, after his message on the high cost of discipleship, many followers walked away (John 6).  He turned to His disciples and asked, “Do you want to leave also?”  Peter responded with great insight:  “Where will we go?  You are the One with words of eternal life.”  How do you respond when Christ chooses to teach and disciple you rather than relieve your pain and perform a miracle for you?  Is your faith contingent upon how easy He can make your life or how many desires He can fulfill?  Or are you willing to pick up a personal cross and follow Him (Mk 8:34).
