DAILY DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY APRIL 16, 2020

Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)  Search me,  O God,  and know my heart;  test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me,  and lead me in the way everlasting.

How easily do you take offense?  “The offended ones feel the need to offend back those who they think have offended them,  creating defensiveness on the part of the presumed offenders,  which often becomes a new offense—ad infinitum.  There seems to be no way out of this self-defeating and violent Ping-Pong game—except growing up spiritually”  (Richard Rohr, Falling Upward).  We need to invite the Lord to introduce us to the supernatural act of forgiveness.  It is the interrupter,  the game changer that Christ modeled–even from the cross  (Forgive them.  They don’t know what they are doing – Lk 23:34).  How we need the Spirit’s guidance in walking the  “everlasting way”  lest we become satisfied with living a very small,  selfish life and miss the abundant life we were meant to experience.  Pray it:  search me,  know my heart,  test me,  “lead me along the path of everlasting life” (NLT).  Amen.
