DAILY DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2020

Colossians 3:5 (NIV)  Put to death,  therefore,  whatever belongs to your earthly nature:  sexual immorality,  impurity,  lust,  evil desires and greed,  which is idolatry.

“You can’t flip a switch and want God more than anything else.  We can’t master all the impulses.  We have to go to the parts of the self and identify what defeats us.  For example:  we may have an inordinant need for people to like us—ask the Holy Spirit to look at that.  A major part of repentance is seeing things for what they are.  That alone often loosens the grip.  We have to be willing to do that.  We need to find a way to be honest and open.  Start right where you are.  If you don’t really want to change and ask for forgiveness…well,  maybe God would prefer we be honest.  Even that can be a step forward.  Repentance starts with seeing things as they actually are;  and you can’t fake it.  God isn’t dumb.  He sees our reality.  Step into truth,  then you can move forward.”
