DAILY DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2020

I Peter 5:5b (NIV)  All of you,  clothe yourselves with humility toward one another,  because,  “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Humility is a superpower these days.  It takes humility to confess that you have sinned.  It takes humility to admit that you were wrong.  Humility enables us to grab the life jacket so we can get pulled to safety.  Grace is available to us from the hand of God but pride creates a barrier.  The root cause of Satan’s fall was pride (Ezek. 28:15, 17).  Deification of self is an infringement on the deity of God.  Where does the lust for position and power come from that inspires world rulers—that inspires you and me to say,  “I will exalt myself…I will sit in the mount…I will ascend”?  In contrast,  Jesus  “made himself nothing,  taking the very nature of a servant,  being made in human likeness…humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Phil 2:7-8).  How are you expressing humility toward others?
