John 12:3 (NIV)

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair.

For a woman to uncover her hair in public in the presence of men was a disgrace in that culture. The shock of what the men had seen must have caused a brief, embarrassed silence that finally found expression in Judas’ harsh comment. Of course, Mary knew the risk of her action but was following the lead of the Holy Spirit, being attentive to the right moment. It was a “God-moment” that would deeply minister to Jesus. Did Heaven send a quiet sign of encouragement Jesus’ way as He stood on the precipice of crucifixion? I think so. Will we walk through life being attentive to “God-moments,” living with discernment that only the Holy Spirit can give? Living a Spirit-led life causes us to notice things that others miss.
