DEVOTIONS – FRIDAY JUNE 14, 2019

I Corinthians 12:3b (NLT) …no one can say Jesus is Lord,  except by the Holy Spirit.

“Many people in Western cultures today,  if they do believe God exists,  see Him as all loving and kind,  so there is no need to ask forgiveness.  As a result,  many see themselves,  and all of humanity,  as being close to God whether or not they profess Christianity.”  The Bible clearly teaches that we are estranged from God due to the curse of sin;  and we are unable to do anything about it.  God alone provides the means to redeem people through faith in His Son.  “It is impossible for people to use human reason to confess Jesus as Lord.  If they could,  salvation would come by human works,  not by faith.”   We need the Holy Spirit to turn on the light in our souls so that we can see the reality of sin and our need for a Savior.  That awful-but-necessary moment of conviction can lead us to a confession of faith in Jesus that engages salvation and brings wonderful relief from sin.  Don’t shirk conviction and pretend things are OK between you and God.  Lean in to the truth that the Holy Spirit speaks,  and let Him heal your heart.
