DEVOTIONS – FRIDAY OCTOBER 18, 2019

Hebrews 3:19 (NIV) –  So we see that they were not able to enter,  because of their unbelief.

The writer is referring to the horrific reality that a whole generation of Israelites died in the wilderness because they did not develop the faith necessary for crossing over the final hurdle to get into the Promised Land.  They were the generation that witnessed the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea,  saw God hover above Mt. Sinai in frightening power and provide water for them in the desert.  Yet,  they succumbed to a spiritual plague:  unbelief.  Like a deadly infection that captured their hearts,  they could not trust God to bring them across the finish line.  They let fear  (Satan’s favorite weapon)  take control.  How many times do we face trial after trial and with each successive blow find our hearts losing faith?  Those are the moments in which true faith is forged through blatant determination to follow Him in spite of the obstacles.  Keep going,  keep trusting.  God is leading us to divine destinies.
