DEVOTIONS – MONDAY JANUARY 13, 2020

Psalm 46:10  (NIV)  Be still,  and know that I am God…

When we learn how to be still in God’s presence in unhurried prayer and linger quietly in an attitude of receptivity,  something incredible will happen:  the  “knowing”  will come.  For many of us,  busy agendas distract us,  and prayer becomes another thing on our to-do list,  an activity filled with words and opinions. He wants to teach us how to move at His pace and see through His eyes and understand with His heart;  and that begins as we learn to sit before Him emptied of self-focus in wordless waiting and surrender.  Henri Nouwen said,  “We do not take the spiritual life seriously if we do not set aside some time to be with God and listen to Him.”  Have you learned to listen in prayer?  Have you learned how to  “quiet the noise of your life,  cease the constant striving of human effort,  and pull away from your absorption in human relationships for a time in order to give God your undivided attention”?  As we begin a new year,  let’s listen for what God has to say!
