Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV) I will lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
The psalmist looked up at the hills and saw idols and shrines to false gods dotting the landscape. While others prayed to gods who could not answer, the psalmist knew the Lord would hear and respond to his prayers. Jehovah was the Maker of heaven and earth. Today our “landscape” is dotted with shrines and idols that feed the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (I John 2:16). We must lift our eyes up and beyond them to join the psalmist in declaring that our help comes from the Lord. He is our source for everything we need. Let us boldly declare our praise to the one true God, Jehovah, and His only Son, Jesus Christ our Savior.
