DEVOTIONS – TUES. APRIL 30, 2019

John 21:3 (NLT)

(Jesus) called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?”

The disciples responded to the overwhelming perplexities of the happenings in Jerusalem by withdrawing to Galilee and engaging in the rugged joy of hard work. The danger was that they might forget the life into which Jesus had called them: I will make you fishers of men (Matt. 4:19). So Jesus appeared on the shore and repeated a familiar miracle (Luke 5:1-11). John instantly recognized what had happened, “It is the Lord,” he told Peter. “This time the manifestation had not occurred in the strange surroundings of Jerusalem, under circumstances so unusual as to make them wonder whether it were all a dream or not. The risen Lord demonstrated His power in their own familiar Galilee, while they were engaged in their own occupation. There could be no doubt about the voice, or about the fish, or about His presence. The resurrection reality fitted into the pattern of their everyday experience.” So it is with us. Spirituality integrates in healthy ways. Christ’s healing presence moves into our everyday spaces. Let it happen. Recognize Jesus on your familiar shoreline. Welcome Him there.
