John 14:1 (NLT)

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”

As Jesus began His critical teaching to prepare His disciples for the coming challenge to their faith, various disciples interrupted with their questions. Like little children interrupting a parent who is trying desperately to teach them something for life-threatening situations, Jesus replies, and then reverts to His original line of thought. If we believe that a personal God exists, who is the redeemer and judge of all mankind, then there must be a destiny for people beyond the grave. “The hope of immortality is founded upon a personal relationship with a living God.” Jesus challenged them to have a personal faith in Him as well—against all odds. He holds the key to the question of destiny and promised to prepare a place for them and to return to claim them. As we stand over the graves of our loved ones, we must keep this truth in clear focus. “I will come and take you to be with me” (v. 3). Faith in Jesus is our key to understanding destiny.
