Mary and John and other women had watched Jesus die an excruciating death. Can we even imagine it? Joseph and Nicodemus had taken His dead body down from the cross and buried it in a tomb (John 19). Everybody went home to grieve. All the followers of Jesus wondered how it could have happened. After three days He rose from the dead and literally hundreds of people saw Him alive. What a way for God to authenticate the identity of His Son! All humanity knows the finality of death, but through this miracle Jesus showed us that the things that limit us do not limit him. He has power over death, our greatest enemy. And He has power to transform our lives and restore us to that magnificent relationship with God that existed in the beginning.
