HOLY WEEK DEVOTIONS – SATURDAY APRIL 11, 2020

John 19:38 (NLT) Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus’ body. When Pilate gave permission, Joseph came and took the body away.

We call it Silent Saturday,  when we sit and wait and hope.  Of course,  we know Sunday is coming;  but the disciples knew only that Jesus was dead,  and so were their hopes and dreams.  Remember:  faith is something you cling to when reason and understanding fall void.  Silent Saturday is the time to engage faith,  not disengage it.  Don’t jump prematurely into Easter Sunday without standing in Saturday’s truth that God is still sovereign even if our expectations about Him are not.  Sit in the dark,  damp,  tomblike place for a little while.  Jesus is there.  It is a holy place.  Wait with hope.  Jesus is the resurrection and life.
