TERRY RUHLEN’S BIO
Terry was raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York. He has 10 siblings. He was drafted into the army in 1968 and served a tour in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division with his younger brother Verne. He was commissioned as an Infantry and Special Forces officer receiving his Green Beret prior to his assignment in Vietnam. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal for his service. He returned home in 1971 and attended Cornell University graduating with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education.
Terry completed his military service in 1997 having served for 23 years combined active and reserve duty retiring in 1997 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His final assignment was Section Chief, Special Operations, Joint Reserve Unit, United States Atlantic Command.
Terry was employed by the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District and Henrico County retiring in 2014 with 27 years in the field of conservation and construction oversight.
Terry served as a Deacon at WEAG and was heavily involved with the technical and backstage aspect of Glorious Christmas nights.
Terry has been married to his wife Thelma for 32 years and has three lovely daughters and nine grandchildren and great grandchildren.
