It's Personal

It's Personal

Happy New Year WEAG Family!
Have you taken the January Challenge?

  • Fast something (give something up that you regularly do or eat)
  • Pray something (pray for something specific that you would like to see God change in you for 2020)
  • Share something (share with us your experience and how God is changing within you in 2020)

I am so excited about a new special page on our website designed to share stories of how God is changing you. You can use this page to stay encouraged through our January Challenge and also to encourage fellow WEAGers who use it. Here are a few ideas for how to contribute to the discussion below:

  • record what you’re fasting and praying about
  • leave an encouraging comment
  • share a verse or an answer to prayer
  • share a “God-moment” or experience of how God is changing you

If you have something you’d like to share outside of your experience with the January Challenge, please send a private email to a WEAG pastor. Please do not post anything critical, judgmental, divisive, or discouraging on this web page. This page is an opportunity for all of us to love one another.

I’m excited to hear the stories of what God is doing in the lives of those who will share their stories. Try praying change into the one area of your life that you hope to see God’s power transform. May God’s power be at work IN YOU for 2020.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work WITHIN US, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen .” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

    Happy New Year WEAG Family!

I’m so excited to begin 2020 with you! This Sunday I kick off a new series called It’s Personal. We’re all prone to compartmentalize our spiritual growth within the corporate setting of church or small groups. People say things like, I’m Baptist, I’m Assemblies of God, I’m Catholic. They talk about the church they attend or small group they are in or the serving team where they participate. But they don’t have much to say about their own Bible reading, prayer time and personal spiritual growth. This month, I want to share with you what God has been saying to me about making our spiritual growth personal in 2020.

In that vein, I’d also like to invite you to join our 2020 January Challenge. The challenge involves two things – fasting and praying. Choose something in the month of January that you normally eat, do or participate in and cut it out for one month. The idea is to starve your mind or body of one thing in order to remind yourself that your soul craves something more important—a personal, growing relationship with God.

While you’re creating a void through fasting, feed your soul with prayer and Scripture. Ask yourself, what is the one thing that would impact my entire year and most importantly, my life, if I changed it? Then take the next 30 days and pray about it every day. Choose a Scripture to read every day as well. For extra credit, consider journaling your experience. Write down the daily impact that focused prayer and Scripture has on your perspective and your life. If you’re looking for a Scripture reading plan, try the One Year Bible or use the You Version Bible app (there are many reading plans and devotions on there); just download from the App Store. Of course, you could also choose a devotional book or any particular book of the Bible and just start reading.

On Friday evening, January 31, we will have a worship celebration to highlight what God has done in us personally during the month of January. We will take time to celebrate the spiritual breakthrough God is orchestrating in our corporate body for 2020 and the changes in us personally. We will break our fast together – refreshments will be served!

Worship Wednesdays will continue every month but not on the first week. Our first Worship Wednesday will be on Wed, Feb 19.

Let’s seek God together in 2020 and grow spiritually like we never have before!

    Blessings,
    Shane

So excited to hear the stories of what God is doing in the lives of those who will share their stories. Try praying change into the one area of your life that you hope to see God’s power transform. You can pick anything but then focus your prayer every day around that one area you want to see God change in you. Certainly pray about many things each day but don’t ever miss the ONE thing you want to see God change in you for 2020. May Gods power be at work IN YOU for 2020.

    Ephesians 3:20
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work WITHIN US.”

I am fasting alcohol and social media and in just 5 days it’s amazing how much peace I have! The worldly pressures and pursuits often drown out God’s still, small voice. I am praying to hear God more clearly. Happy New Year!

I am fasting video entertainment (television, movies, Youtube, etc.). I am praying that I will learn to sit still in God’s presence long enough for Him to change me in so many ways.
