Exodus 4:13-16 (NIV) (focus verse 13) But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”
Has the Lord ever led you to do something, and you resisted because you saw only obstacles and personal inability? Maybe it was a call to go on a missions trip, or to care for a sick neighbor, or to have a small group in your home. I remember when the Lord challenged me to go on a construction trip to Romania. I would be traveling far away from my husband and small children for ten days to do construction work (not my best skill). But I could not resist the call. I went. And on that trip, God connected me with leaders who opened doors for me to return the following year with a women’s team to hold a women’s conference; and hundreds of women from all over the country attended! What if I had said “no”? What opportunity I would have missed! Of course, God would have accomplished it through someone else, but to my loss. This conversation between Moses and God shows us that “God might acquiesce to our insistences, but we are lesser instruments as a result. We suffer loss.”* Don’t resist. Lean in.
