Exodus 16: 1-22 (focus verse 4) (NIV) Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them to see whether they will follow my instructions.”
God reveals Himself to Israel as the Provider in times of need. Notice how He made provision for His people without promoting idleness. Notice how He “provided sufficiency for all without surplus or lack (vv. 17-18); discouraged hoarding in unbelief (vv. 19-20); encouraged diligence in making use of the time of opportunity (v. 21); and discouraged tardiness until the opportunity was ‘melted’ (v. 21).” Have you caught yourself hoarding in unbelief, or missing your moment of opportunity? God cares for His people—that’s you and me. We can learn His ways by studying ancient Israel who, in many ways, is humanity personified. As we walk our journey of faith, where can you identify with Israel’s journey? Learn from their story.
