Exodus 33:7-11 (NIV focus verse 11) The Lord would speak to Moses face to face as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
God communed with Moses on an intimate basis. Indeed, the job of getting God’s people from Egypt to the Promised Land was of such importance to God, would impact the future of the Israelites, would change the course of history by setting the stage for the Messiah to come. Moses had a huge mission. But notice who stood in the shadows carefully observing it all: young Joshua. At every intersection of the journey, Joshua stood nearby. Oh, that we would notice the young “Joshua” leaders that are standing in our shadows! They are watching our relationship with the Lord, watching how we handle trials and challenges. God is preparing them for the future. Be a good mentor. Give of your time and attention. Engage in one-on-one conversations about life, leadership and God’s mission. Who is your young Joshua?
