Deuteronomy 2:24b (NLT) “…begin to take possession of it…”
The metaphor of conquering enemies and taking new ground, as described in Israel’s historic entry into Canaan, applies to us today. Externally, evil finds expression through broken humanity. We confront and conquer evil by allowing God’s Spirit to find expression through us. I nternally, we war against an inherited force that the Apostle Paul calls the “old nature,” and it drives us to the lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes, and the pride of life. But as we surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and give Him the ultimate authority over our lives, we begin to experience the peace, love, joy, and faith that is characteristic in God’s people. As we follow Jesus, we focus on building the Kingdom of God and we pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Are you gaining ground in your spiritual life? Are you “taking possession” of new territory? Are you winning battles in former areas of dysfunction? Are you sharing the Gospel to people living in dysfunction and suffering in pain? Invite the Lord to teach you how to “take possession” and gain ground for His glory.
