Proverbs 8:17 (KJV)
I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
As we wait before the Lord in prayer, we do so with proper postures of heart. Do we love God? Then we will come to Him early—early in the morning, and early in any escalating situation. We won’t turn to Him as a last resort. We will listen for His guidance first and foremost. We will come to Him daily and systematically, not spasmodically: Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway (Proverbs 8:34). And we will be watchful, “alert to His response but without strain.” We will come to Him continually as a “mode of life and not merely a temporary expediency in time of need” (Hosea 12:6). We will come before the Lord expectantly— “with confident and active expectation and not in a state of mere pious wishing (Psalm 62:1, 5). But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me (Micah 7:7). Who are you watching for this year?
