Psalm 32:8 (NIV)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
This verse shows two aspects of divine guidance: 1) God INSTRUCTS by imparting the knowledge of His will by precept, and 2) God TEACHES by imparting the knowledge of His will through experience. Sometimes a lesson is learned from hearing a truth taught in a good sermon and then followed by an experience. But sometimes a lesson is learned first through an experience and then followed by learning a precept—studying the topic, talking with a Christian counselor, dissecting the experience. I don’t believe that the truth God wants us to learn can be fully absorbed without both precept and experience (connecting faith with life). Sometimes we must wait years in order to have lived enough life to be able to understand how those dots connect. What have you experienced that you didn’t understand? What precept have you learned that you haven’t yet lived? Have faith in God. One day the Holy Spirit will connect the two and you WILL understand; in the meantime, don’t let go His hand! Stand in faith—it will hold you in His care until the answer comes.
