Luke 5:7-8 (NIV) (Focus verse 8)
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord, I am a sinful man!”
“Demonstration of the supernatural brings consciousness of sin.” People don’t know how to respond to the supernatural works of God (see Acts 2:12). It presents for us a reality so far beyond our comprehension that it can be frightening and disorienting. It can also bring enlightenment (see Isaiah 6:5-6). Isaiah’s first response to his vision of God was, “Woe is me! I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips…” The saving grace of it all is that God makes us holy—we cannot make ourselves holy. Jesus is the source of holiness. When you become aware of a sinful tendency, do as Peter did: fall at Jesus’ feet. He has come to make us clean and set us on a new path. When you do not understand a supernatural demonstration of God’s power, do not resist it. Humble yourself before the Lord. Let Him do His work in you.
