I Samuel 9:6-13 (NIV) “Don’t be afraid,” David said to (Mephibosheth), “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
This story is a remarkable testament to the honors of sonship. Due to no fault of his own, young Mephibosheth fell as a child and became crippled (II Sam. 4:4). After years of hunger and heartache, Mephibosheth was called to King David’s palace where he was showered with honor simply because he was the last of King Saul’s lineage. Imagine how he felt. Once shattered by trials now he was showered by blessings. What a wonderful metaphor for us! Life comes prepackaged with trials that have the power to cripple us; but when we become Christ followers we receive an invitation to sit at the Lord’s table and enjoy the many blessings that come as a result of being His child. He blesses us in spite of our brokenness. Give thanks today for the opportunity to eat at the Lord’s table, where He provides the food of wisdom, strength, joy, peace, and hope.
