Matthew 1:21 (NIV) She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.
Jesus is the Greek form of the Jewish name, Joshua, which means Jehovah is salvation. The angel told Joseph in a dream that Mary’s son would grow up to become the Savior. Can you imagine how Joseph felt upon hearing these words? Think of the relief He felt in knowing that his trust in Mary had not been displaced after all. When Joseph awoke, he faced the hard reality that people would misjudge her. He needed to protect her and the child. So he did what the angel had commanded him (vs. 24) and took her as his wife. How would you have responded if you were in Joseph’s situation? Learn from Joseph. Love is always the best response.
