Colossians 1:15, 19, 20b (NIV) The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation… For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to Himself all things… by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Long before there ever was an Abraham, Jesus was present. Long before there ever was a Bethlehem, Jesus was present. Jesus’ life did not begin in Bethlehem. There was never a time when He was not and there will never be a time when He ceases to be—He is the eternal second person of the Trinity: the Son of God, the pre-existent Savior. Paul wrote to the Colossians who needed to understand that Jesus was divinity, the pre-existent second person of the Trinity—present at creation, present in the Old Testament, and finally taking on a body and going to the cross to take the penalty for our sins inherited through Adam. How else would you explain the supernatural character of our Lord? He was 100% God and 100% man—this is called “The Incarnation.” Celebrate this truth today.
