I John 4:8 (NLT) – But anyone who does not love does not know God for God is love.
God’s love goes so far beyond human love, and the Bible describes it this way: This is love; not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (I John 4:9-10). While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. So much human love is rooted in what we get from other people. But “divine love is totally unselfish, and it operates even when its object is unloving.” Jesus is the best example of this. He died to provide salvation for all people. When we love our enemies, we are displaying divine love—and that kind of love has transformational power.
