Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV) – But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
God is rich in mercy and grace toward us. Mercy is God’s response of compassion and forbearance toward those who are in misery or distress. Grace is His kindness toward those who are ill-deserving—it is unmerited favor. When have God’s expressions of grace and mercy touched your life? How did it affect you? Did it humble you? Did it cause you to love Him even more? We serve a good God who is compassionate toward our human weaknesses and our inclinations toward sin. When we repent and seek His help, God is quick to forgive and restore. “His mercy is always directed toward someone’s need.” And He expects us to reflect that same attitude of mercy toward others (Matt. 5:7). Whom do you know who needs God’s mercy and grace expressed through you today?
