Psalm 103:20 (NIV) Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, who obey His word.
The word translated angel means messenger. Angels were created to carry out specific spiritual functions on behalf of God and His people. Throughout the Bible you will read about them worshipping God, carrying out assignments for Him, serving as agents of His judgment, providing strength and protection for God’s people, delivering God’s people in times of peril, and sometimes even providing guidance. Yet they are not to be worshiped because they are merely created beings: He commanded and they were created (Psalm 148:5). Unlike human beings, who are compound creatures composed of body and spirit, angels do not have bodies; but on occasion God temporarily grants them a bodily form so that they can communicate with people. A fascination with angels must never preclude our worship of the Lord who made them and who directs them to come to our aide in times of need. One day we will join them in Heaven worshipping around God’s throne. Take a lesson from the angels: be quick to obey the Lord and live fully engaged in worship.
