II Corinthians 7:10 (NLT) For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
The person who has sinned must confess their sin and feel true sorrow for his or her failure. True repentance = changed behavior. Jesus told the woman caught in the sin of adultery, Go and sin no more. Without godly sorrow and changed behavior, there will be no restoration of trust on the part of the person who was hurt, and there will be no reconciliation or restoring of relationships. We can have tons of compassion for the person who sinned, and we can recognize that nobody is perfect but unless there is true sorrow and a change in behavior, reconciliation is impossible. Christ gives us power to change through the Holy Spirit. Pray for those struggling in relationships today.
