Mark 1:16-18 (NIV)
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
There are things we need to overcome in our response to the Lord’s call, such as occupational claims (Luke 5:27-28). What social claims must you overcome to follow the Lord (Mark 1:19-20; Luke 14:26)? What physical comforts have you overcome to follow Christ (Luke 9:57-58; Song of Songs 5:2-3)? What public claims on you have you overcome in order to follow the Lord (Exodus 24:12-16; Luke 5:16)? What material claims have you overcome to respond to God’s call (Mark 10:17-23; Luke 14:33)? Think deeply on these claims as you sit in fresh surrender before God.
