I Samuel 10:7 (The Message)
When these confirming signs are accomplished, you’ll know that you’re ready. Whatever job you’re given to do, do it. God is with you!
Saul had not been campaigning to become king. His search for his father’s lost donkeys led him to the prophet, who declared the call of God upon his life and anointed him. Be sure to read all of chapters 9 and 10 to get the context of this story. Have you ever been surprised by a promotion that seemed to come out of nowhere and found yourself saying, “Now what do I do?” Here is the answer: first, attend to opportunities at hand. No dreams every night or visions every day—just look around and respond. Sometimes the godliest thing you can do is simply notice and engage. (Verse 9 is significant: A heart adjustment enables godly perspective and responses; and it is the Holy Spirit who adjusts our hearts as we yield to God’s plan, whether we feel ready for it or not.)
