Colossians 3:1 (NIV)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
(KJV – seek those things which are above; NLT – set your sights on the realities of Heaven).
Our new life in Christ requires a new way of thinking and a new Christ-centered focus of attention. When we make the choice to follow Jesus, we discover an emergent and increasing desire to understand the Bible, to be in church with other believers to worship, and a need to learn how to pray effectively and a desire to share our experience with others who don’t yet have a relationship with Him. This is the work of the Holy Spirit that confirms new life within us. However, as life crowds in around us with all its diversions and necessary duties, we can drift from our spiritual moorings and over time become lukewarm (Rev. 3:16) in our attention to spirituality. Beware the distractions. Don’t allow worldly pursuits to waste your mental or emotional energy. “Set your heart” daily in a fresh determination to live “in Christ” (Rom. 8:1) so that you can evaluate life from a redemptive, divine perspective. Jesus is our “wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption” (I Cor. 1:30) as we set our hearts on Him.
