Deuteronomy 31:22 (NLT)
So that very day Moses wrote down the words of the song and taught it to the Israelites…
Moses’ last words to Israel included a song that they were to memorize and that he hoped would somehow serve as a deterrent for future generations so that they would not abandon God. The song contrasted the greatness of God to the ungratefulness of people, the kindness of God contrasted to the provocation of God by his people. It was not a happy little song, but a song of warning that Moses wanted to tuck into the heart of this nation of people because Moses knew the challenges that waited for Israel in the Promised Land. He knew how they would be tempted to compromise their faith, to be like other nations, to worship false gods and engage in “little” sins that would break their covenant with God. How important it is for us to tuck into the hearts of our children the songs, the memory verses, the memories of church that the Holy Spirit can use to keep them on the right path as they grow older and face the world’s temptations. How are you making Godly memories with the children and grandchildren around you, memories that will help them hold onto faith?
