“God provides for the needs of His people. Just as He provides for the birds without putting it into their mouths, God makes provision for His people without promoting idleness. He provided sufficiency without surplus or lack (vv. 17-18); He discouraged hoarding in unbelief (vv. 19-20); He encouraged diligence in making use of the time of opportunity (v. 21); and He discouraged tardiness until the opportunity was ‘melted’ (v. 21)” (Beutler).
