Genesis 1:1 (NIV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The word “Genesis” means “beginning” and so many beginnings are recorded here: “the beginning of the revelation of God (1:1), the material universe (1:1;2:3), the human race (1:26-31); human sin (3:1-7); the revelation of redemption (3:21); the human family (4:1-15); a godless civilization (4:16; 6:7); the nations of the world (10: 1-32); the languages of the world (11:1-9); and the Hebrew race (11:10-50:26). It is one of the two books of the Bible (the other being Revelation) which Satan has attacked more than any other, for Genesis predicts his doom (3:15) and Revelation seals his doom (20:10). Note that God existed before the creation of the cosmos (John 1:1-3)” (Walter Beutler, NOTES). He is our omnipotent (all powerful) God whom we can trust with our lives and everything precious to us.
