The people of Israel “had yet to learn the true state of their hearts, for there was no reason whatever to suppose that they would obey God in the future any more than they had done in the past.” How easy it is for us to make commitments to Christ that quickly disintegrate when temptations come our way. We need the power of the Holy Spirit to strengthen us so that we can discern the realities around us, live connected to Jesus, and find His power to walk in His ways. Human determination is not enough. We need supernatural power. Jesus knew that. It is why He told His disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit before heading out into the world to fulfill their mission. Are you frustrated with an inability to live for Christ the way you want—in full submission to Him? Seek for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. You will see what a difference He makes!
