Exodus 3:1 (NIV) Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
What a different place, far from the bustle and activity of Egypt! It was the place where God prepared Moses in two ways. First, by a revelation of Himself (3:1-10) and then in a revelation of His ways (3:11-4:17). Why would we think we could do God’s work without knowing His character, or His nature, or His attitude toward sin and injustice? Can we do God’s work without an understanding of His compassion or His holiness? Surely not. Following God begins when we get quiet before Him and learn to listen and learn. Are you trying to serve God out of your own ideas of how religion should be done (or not be done)? God wants you to prioritize knowing Him and His ways.
