Joshua 1:12-15 (focus verse 13) (NIV) Remember the command that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: “The Lord your God is giving you rest and has granted you this land.”
The tribe of Reuben and half of the tribe of Manasseh had asked Moses if they could settle into the land east of Jordan (Numbers 32:1-19)—a land suitable for their livestock, with grass and fields. Had they not stopped short of full entry into Canaan, they would have inherited so much more: “a land flowing with milk and honey… mountains and valleys that drink rain from the heavens…and new wine and oil” (see Deut. 11). Joshua honored Moses’ promise. How often do we stop short of entering our full inheritance in Christ? Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10). Do we settle for mediocre when Jesus promises so much more? Are we passionate for God’s best?
