Deuteronomy 13:2b
…If they say, “Come, let us worship other gods—gods you have not known before—do not listen to them.
God’s people were cautioned against responding to idolatrous influences from various sources, including religious influences, such as the pretense of false prophets. Some folks are enamored by supernatural manifestations (fortune telling, interpreting dreams, and signs and wonders). We should treat as suspect anything that moves us away from a wholehearted worship of Jehovah God. “Love Him with all your heart and soul…obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to him” (vs. 3-4). False prophets always lead us “astray from the way of the Lord” (vs 5). Jesus warned that “false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect—if that were possible (Mark 13:22; Matt 24:11, 24). So, recognize and resist the pull of idolatrous influences that come in many forms in our culture these days. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
