Genesis 41:50-52 (NLT) Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is
because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.”
The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me
fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
Here we have a window into Joseph’s soul. After enduring years of heartache, he gave names of hope and reassurance to his newborn sons. For those of us who live with extremely bad childhood memories, be assured that God wants to bring us into a place of wholeness in which we, too, can say, “God has made me forget all my trouble.” Such wholeness exists. For those of you who have suffered so deeply and wondered if life could ever be joyful again, take comfort in Joseph’s words. God will help you forget the pain and make you fruitful as He brings you into healing and wholeness one step at a time. Mannasseh! Ephraim!
