Twice the scriptures tell us that Mary “treasured up” (NIV) a unique experience: here, as the shepherds bowed to worship her newborn son, and later when she and Joseph “lost” Jesus at the temple. They were two very different occasions but worthy of a heavenly notation: this child belongs to God. The day would come when He would grow into manhood and endure terrible misunderstandings and accusations. That truth (He belongs to God) would bolster her faith during the tough times to come.
