Matthew 6:12 (NLT) …and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
Jesus teaches us that if we do not live in “God’s dimension of release and forgiveness toward others, we will inevitably become an obstruction to our own life, growth and fruitfulness.” Forgiving faith works both ways. We must confess our own violations against God, and we must forgive others who we believe have violated us. Forgiveness is a primary, essential truth to be understood if we are to progress into spiritual maturity. We have multiple opportunities every day to hold grudges, take comments the wrong way, misinterpret people’s attitudes and actions and become resentful people. Jesus taught us to pray for forgiveness for ourselves and to extend it to others. He modeled it as He hung on the cross: Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34). Have you learned how to pray this prayer—how to live free from bitterness?
